"One wrong choice... one last night... 24 hours to live a lifetime"

25th Hour (2002)
Directed by Spike Lee, rated R, 135 minutes

25th Hour is a brutally real crime drama about a drug dealer who, after being caught by the DEA and sentenced to 7 years in jail, spends one last day of freedom with his friends, girlfriend and dad. The whole cast is dynamite, especially Barry Pepper, in his best performance, as the fast talking hotshot broker/friend, and Ed Norton is perfectly restrained and conflicted in the lead, memorably exploding in one provocative tirade. Director Spike Lee's visuals are always impressive and he effectively builds a tense and uncertain atmosphere with a story that draws parallels to 9/11. But, the greatest strength of 25th Hour is the interesting and deeply human characters who suck you into their world and develop in unpredictable and moving ways. You'll like it if: You like crime dramas, films about New York, Edward Norton, Mysterious Skin, Do the Right Thing or Goodfellas.
