Directed by Ti West, rated R, 95 minutes
The House of the Devil is a creepy, slow burning horror film set in the 1980's about a college student looking to make some money who takes a questionable babysitting job. Jocelin Donahue is delightful in the lead - you can't help but like her character, and Tom Noonan is effortlessly unsettling even when doing very little. The films lets the tension build quite adeptly as things seem always on the edge of terror, though perhaps it builds for too long without the punch. The House of the Devil is sure to please all fans of 80's horror, with it's subdued, throwback style, but any fan of thrillers can appreciate this frightening experience. You'll like it if: You like horror films, suspenseful films, cult horror films, Halloween, Black Christmas or Dead End.
