"Finally... A film about the downwardly mobile."

Metropolitan (1990)
Directed by Whit Stillman, rated PG-13, 98 minutes

Metropolitan is a smart and savagely witty comedy about a group of young, upper-class Manhattanites who bring a lower class young man into their group to be an escort to various events. The film is a little meandering, but the impressive writing and excellent cinematography keep the film interesting. The dialogue is stunningly good and feels completely authentic, especially from Chris Eigeman, who gets a laugh with nearly every line. Metropolitan could just make fun of it's rich characters, but it instead makes them vivid and relatable, as they deal with the same problems of any young person growing up. You'll like it if: You like coming-of-age films, ensemble casts, 90's cinema, Kicking and Screaming, American Beauty or Manhattan.
