"Do you think your life is important?"

You Can Count on Me (2000)
Directed by Kenneth Lonergan, rated R, 111 minutes

You Can Count on Me is a clever and poignant drama about a single mother who's life gets more complicated when her rarely seen, unsuccessful brother comes into town. The acting is amazing all around, as Laura Linney has realistic chemistry with Mark Ruffalo, who also has a unique and funny relationship with his nephew, played well by Rory Culkin. The story isn't complex, but the characters are, and each one has an intriguing story. You Can Count on Me is a decidedly mature drama, that doesn't have any gimmicks or over the top theatrics, but is simply and interesting story with believable characters. You'll like it if: You like family dramas, films about siblings, Laura Linney, What's Eating Gilbert Grape, Secrets & Lies and The Savages.
