"His life changed history. His courage changed lives."

Milk (2008)
Directed by Gus Van Sant, rated R, 128 minutes

Milk is a beautiful and inspiring biographical drama about Harvey Milk, California's first openly gay elected official, and his battle for equal rights. Sean Penn is electrifying as Harvey Milk, sinking into the role to the point you could mistake him for the real guy, and Josh Brolin subtly captures Dan White, Milk's killer, and makes him a real character. The writing is dynamite all around, capturing all the right moments from Milk's life, but not white washing his flaws, and director Gus Van Sant gives the film real visual flair. Milk succeeds is capturing the grace and humanity of Harvey Milk, and is as exciting as a true stories come. You'll like it if: You like biographical dramas, political dramas, Sean Penn, My Own Private Idaho, The Times of Harvey Milk or Philadelphia.
