The Reader (2008)
Directed by Stephen Daldry, rated R, 124 minutes
The Reader is a sad and emotionally powerful film, nominated for the Best Picture Academy Award, about a young German man who has a brief love affair with an older woman, who he re-encounters years later in life when he is a law student and she is in a war-crime trial. Kate Winslet is amazing, delivering a complicated and depressing portrayal which got her her first Academy Award for Best Actress. The Reader is a complex and yet strangely beautiful film, that will have you emotionally involved until the end. You'll like it if: You like sad movies, Kate Winslet, Witness for the Prosecution or Judgement at Nuremberg.
