Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? (1966)
Directed by Mike Nichols, not rated, 131 minutes

Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? is a painfully honest and almost disturbing film about a bitter aging couple who invite a young couple over for a late night drink, but the night quickly turns unpleasant as the older couple fights and brings the younger couple into it. Elizabeth Taylor delivers a mesmerizing performance as the older wife, her character is train wreck but you can't look away. The story is hard to watch, and feels unbearably authentic, but the film also mixes some truly wicked humor. Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? is a beautifully made but very sad film - it will make you uncomfortable and uneasy, but it's worth it. You'll like it if: You like movies about marriage, movies based on plays, controversial movies, Revolutionary Road or Leaving Las Vegas.
