"When blood is involved, nothing is simple."

Blood Simple (1984)
Directed by Joel Coen, rated R, 94 minutes

Blood Simple is the atmospheric, dark and utterly fascinating debut film of the Coen brothers, about a husband who hires a private investigator to kill his cheating wife, but things quickly become complicated. M. Emmet Walsh is unforgettable as the P.I., in a frightening and darkly humorous performance, and Frances McDormand is great as well. The film exudes a dark and brooding mood, built with beautiful cinematography and brilliant sound mixing. The writing is pitch perfect, mixing dark humor, an amazing story, elements of horror and biting irony to produce a truly powerful story. Blood Simple is a example of the amazing things that can be done on a small budget, and this neo-noir thriller is an intelligent and suspenseful masterpiece, with an inconceivably flawless ending. You'll like it if: You like independent movies, dark comedies, crime-comedies, Fargo, Pulp Fiction or No Country for Old Men.
